A thought that became a purpose
Rayyan Mushtaque founded Hayat Al-Ummah Welfare in March 2026 with just five volunteers, and serves as its founder and authorised signatory. He handles coordination, outreach and the day-to-day running of the initiative.
His story started with a simple observation: children in his neighbourhood who did not have enough money for their basic needs. That observation grew into a commitment — and finally into a small team that shows up, plans, packs and delivers.

Why I started this
Hayat Al-Ummah Welfare started with a simple thought — if I can help someone, why shouldn’t I?
Many times, I would see children who did not have enough money for their basic needs. Seeing them always made me think that one day, I should do something for people like them. I didn’t know exactly how or when, but the thought of helping people stayed with me.
With time, that thought became a purpose. I wanted to do something meaningful for people who are struggling, and I wanted to bring other young people together who felt the same way.
In March 2026, I turned that thought into action and started Hayat Al-Ummah Welfare with just five volunteers. What began as a small effort slowly grew into a team working together for the community.
Today, our work focuses on food and relief support, community awareness, legal-aid support, and connecting people affected by difficult situations, including sexual assault, with appropriate support services.
I believe that change doesn’t always begin with something big. Sometimes, it begins with one meal, one helping hand, one conversation, or simply being there for someone.
